Impatiens hawkeri (Impatiens New Guinea)
(5)Impatiens hawkeri of the Balsaminaceae family is also known as Impatiens New Guiea. It is mainly grown as an annual in beds and containers or as a pot plant. Sowing for spring sale is done in I-III at 1500 seeds per 1000 plants, lightly sprinkled with vermiculite. Germinate for 8-14 days at 22-24 °C, then reduce the temperature to 22 °C during the day and 21-22 °C at night, transplanting in 3-5 weeks after sowing; seedlings for sale are grown in 11-14 cm pots at 20-24 °C, cultivation time is 12-18 weeks.
The Florific® group is particularly valued for the rapid and economical production of flowering Impatiens New Guinea seedlings from seed at lower temperatures in 11-14cm pots. The varieties can also be successfully used as houseplants with a short cultivation period and good maturity, flowering from II to XII and flowering is not affected by day length. The evenly branched plants with large flowers are attractive for bedding plantings, urban greenery and for growing in containers. The best results are achieved by when grown in partial shade.
