Canna
(5)Cannaceae, annual, for growing in large containers or flower beds, where thanks to large leaves and brightly coloured inflorescences it creates an interesting landmark. We sow the seeds in the plug trays relatively deep, to about half the depth of the plug tray cell, in a very moist substrate. It germinates for 7-10 days at a temperature of 20-24 °C. The total growing time in plug trays is 4-5 weeks. After transplanting into 15 cm or larger pots, we grow at a temperature of 21–29 °C during the day and 16–26 °C at night. The time from transplanting into pots to flowering is 55-80 days, depending on the selected growing temperature; the optimal pH of the substrate 6.2–7.0. The use of growth regulators is not necessary.
The Cannova® F1 group attracts attention with its exotic appearance. These are completely unique canna varieties grown from seed, the price of which is incomparably more favourable compared to young plants offered on our market. They are excellent in large containers on terraces, verandas and balconies. They can create a distinctive landmark in the centre of park plantings, and they also suitably accentuate water features in gardens. They can be successfully planted in beds in public green spaces. Cannova® varieties flower 10 days earlier than other available groups. They are compact in growth and branch well; one plant is sufficient for sale in 15 cm pots. All varieties in this group flower at the same time, which increases the percentage of plants that can be sold. Cannova® is a unique group, suitable for our climatic conditions, tolerating temperatures of 5-35 °C. Plants flower from April until the first frost. To ensure good growth and abundant flowering, it is recommended to grow in constantly moist soil in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered location. Fertilise every two weeks. The plant shoots can be cut back and new flowers will soon form; the width of the plant can also be adjusted in this way. The Cannova® group grows 70-120 cm tall and 35-50 cm wide. The seeds offered are treated with a special scarifying laser technology for better and more uniform germination.
