Mangold is an old cultivated plant that was known in its original form by the inhabitants of ancient empires. Nowadays, chard is usually grown as a leafy vegetable for harvesting leaves and petioles. It is processed in the cuisine in a similar way as spinach, with the petioles replacing asparagus and the leaves being added to soups, sauces or salads. It is harvested for consumption several times a year and is also suitable for harvesting baby leaves.

Recently, however, chard has been increasingly used in ornamental horticulture, especially for creating original annuals in flowerbeds. It is also increasingly seen in urban and park greenery in combination with commonly used crops. In planting, it stands out for its high durability, aesthetic appeal and originality, not least the relatively low cost of establishing the bed and the subsequent low maintenance. Your plantings will have a unique and often slightly extravagant appearance that will catch everyone's eye at first sight.
